The Tom Smarte Hat Making Experience

*Please note, this event is now sold out*

Join us for a hat making experience on the evening of Tuesday 29th January 2019, in collaboration with The Wigmore bar at The Langham Hotel London. The Tom Smarte team will be demonstrating the skills we use to craft our Tom Smarte hats. This interactive experience will give you a chance to try your hand at the various stages of traditional hat making including steaming, blocking and shaping. Learn about the different felt materials that we use and how each has its own unique character.

The two hour event will start at 7pm with a welcome cocktail or soft drink of your choice including the ‘Smarte & Dapper’ cocktail that has been created by award winning head bartender, Steve Georgiou, to celebrate this collaboration between Tom Smarte x The Wigmore.

You will then have your hat size accurately measured by our master hat maker, Dario, followed by advice by our founder Allon about which hat style would best suit your face shape. You’ll also have the opportunity to try out many Tom Smarte hats including fedoras and homburgs from our 1786 collection as well as our hand crafted flat caps and newsboy caps.

Buffet snacks will be served during the hat making experience.

Tickets are priced at £40 including snacks and drink and can be purchased from The Langham, London gift shop.

Everyone attending the event will receive £100 off a Tom Smarte hat of their choice and will be able to make a selection from the various materials, colours and trimming available for a truly bespoke and unique piece of headwear.

The schedule will be as follows:

19.00 – 19.30 Welcome drink, nibbles, personalised hat sizing and styling session

Located at the top of Regent Street, The Wigmore is a recent venture of The Langham, London with food overseen by Michel Roux Jr and drinks from an award-winning team. Modern takes on traditional pub grub, such as chips, served with Bloody Mary salt and buttered bite-size crumpets, elevated by steamed cock crab, are offered together with hoptails, punches, G&Ts and The Wigmore’s own Saison beer.

Tom Smarte, a brand of designer hats, is overseen by Allon Zloof, who has revived the traditions and skills that were handed down 4 generations all called Thomas, the last of whom taught Allon’s great-grandfather these skills in the 1890s. Having learnt the finer details of hat making while growing up, and with a lifetime of experience in the industry, Allon now brings to Tom Smarte his unerring creative eye, sensitivity to modern hat design and a driving passion to preserve the finest hat making skills and traditions.
